It is important to periodically review
rescue diver skills in order to safely and effectively deal with a
panicked victim in the water.

Divers take turns playing the roles of both a panicked victim,
then a rescuer.

Stressed
and/ or exhausted divers can quickly turn panicked if not given
the proper assistance. Divers review some basic tows and methods
of assisting one another during this pool session.

The
Do-si-do tow is used for an unconscious, non-breathing
victim. Dominique demonstrates this method using Tim as a victim.

After
getting comfortable with the skills using skin gear, the class
switches to scuba and practices recovering divers underwater.

Ray Busard watches the candidates
carefully. Team members will decide by majority vote whether to
promote individual candidates to probationary member status
after successful completion of the academy.
John
Brooks, from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, was kind enough
to stop by at the pool to give the team and candidates the
opportunity to try out some new full face masks with underwater
communications. In this photograph, he is shown helping Charlie
adjust the equipment.
